http://www.onelook.com/

Encyclopedia Britannica
They want you to become a member; but you can get some sort of abbreviated information without signing up as a member.
http://www.britannica.com/

Wikipedia
A free encyclopedia.  This is a relatively new endeavor; but they have tons of stuff on there and they're working on more.  Give them a try; you'll like it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Bible
Why not have the Bible on your computer desktop?  Download the free software along with whatever version you wish.  In fact, they have over 70 different bibles in various versions and many languages.
http://bibledatabase.com/

Language Translator
Type a word, phrase, or even a whole paragraph in one language and it comes back in another. It's not perfect; but it's pretty damn good.  They will also translate a whole website for you.
http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Where did that saying come from? You'll find out here.  Actually, this is a whole internet public library.  It's got everything!
http://www.ipl.org/ref/QUE/PF/etymology.html

Services

Expedia Maps
Want a map or directions to get to someplace? This is the place. Just put in the address. You can print out the map as well as directions as to how to get from your place to theirs. Just click on whichever you want.
http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=over&rfrr=-357

411 Locate People or Businesses
One of the many places you can look up phone numbers. Also has links to Reverse Directory and International numbers. Find nearby businesses including a map of how to get there; click on "Find It Local".
http://www.411locate.com/findit.htm

Free 411 Calls
Tired of paying $1 or more to call Information?  You can avoid that.
From your telephone or cell phone:
call (800) FREE411 - (800) 373-3411
On the cell phone, it will only cost you for the minutes used.  They will play you a "short" commercial while they look up the number; but you can handle that.
On the internet, it has reverse directory, look up person or business, and it gives you a map or a satellite picture of the area.
http://www.free411.com

Find Nearby Businesses
There are other things you can do here; but this is what I use to find a category of business near my location. Just put in the category and then your address. It spits them out according to how far away they are.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/main.adp

Reverse Phone Directory
Did someone call you and not leave a message? Maybe you have a phone number on a piece of paper that you can't figure out where you got it. Find out here who it belongs to.
http://reversephonedirectory.com/

Phone Numbers
There are dozens of these sites; but this one seems to be pretty accurate.  It has White pages, Yellow pages, and 800 numbers.  Give it a try.
http://www.yellowpagecity.com/

US Search
You want to find someone? For a small fee, they'll do it here. Put in a name and a city, ZIP code, and approximate age and they'll give you a little bit of info -- just to tease you. I've tried putting in a slightly different age and they come back with the correct age. They must know something! They want money for "the rest of the story". It's not much money, though; probably worth it if you want the information.

A story put together by a number of Newsweek reporters on the front lines from all parts of the world.  It basically points out why the most powerful nation in the world can't fight its way out of a wet paper bag.  Pretty sad - but true.  It's probably an hour's reading, but well worth it if you're interested in the truth.

Fun Stuff

Pick Any Date
You want to know who was born, died, or married on a certain date? here's what you do. Just change the URL below to reflect that date. Be careful! Don't change anything else or it won't work. If the date has only 1 digit, then just put 1 digit; 7 - NOT 07 for instance. For the month, be sure to capitalize and do not abreviate. I suggest copying it to a notepad file and then you can play with it all you want and then paste it back into the address bar on your browser.
http://www.imdb.com/OnThisDay?day=21&month=June
